Dr. Evan L. Blackwell DDS, MS

of Central Texas Periodontics to our office.

Dr. Blackwell is here to handle all of your periodontic needs. 


Dr. Blackwell is originally from Garland, Texas and completed his undergraduate degree in Advertising at The University of Texas at Austin. While in college, he became greatly interested in the field of dentistry and soon after completed his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. It was here where the faculty and training at Baylor encouraged him to advance in periodontology. He was accepted into The Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon where he specialized in periodontics and obtained his Master’s degree in periodontology. It was there that he was able to develop his knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease, in addition to, obtaining experience in implantology and sedation dentistry. Dr. Blackwell has gained private practice experience working at an emergency dental clinic treating a wide range of conditions as a general dentist. In Portland, he was also able to work at the Portland VA Hospital performing periodontal treatment for veterans in need and educating them on periodontal disease and oral health.

Dr. Blackwell has published two research articles entitled, “Frequency of Root Surface Microgrooves Associated with Periodontal Destruction” in the Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry (November 2016) and “Specific Inactivation of Twist1 in the Mandibular Arch Neural Crest Cells” in Developmental Dynamics (May 2012).

Dr. Blackwell is newly married to another University of Texas alum who he met in college. His wife, Nazli, is currently working in West Lake as a speech-language pathologist. In their free time they enjoy live music, great food, hiking and time with family. They are both are thrilled to be back in Austin where they can enjoy all of what this great city has to offer. Dr. Blackwell is pleased to be a part of the Central Texas Periodontics family and is excited to provide you with excellent and friendly dental care.  

What is a Periodontist?

Periodontist are specialty dentists just like an endodontist. They help with oral inflammation, placing dental implants, and the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease. They receive an additional three years of training beyond dental school to ensure they have extensive training in these areas as well as in cosmetic periodontal procedures.

As specialists in their field, periodontist are up to date with the latest technology in their field and are able to treat more complex or problematic cases than a regular hygienist as well as severe gum disease or patients with complex medical histories.
